Music key and genre finder

Privacy Policy

GenreKey helps identify a track's genre, key, BPM, mood, and music features from audio you choose to record or upload.

No account required Audio only when you start it No user-to-user sharing

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the GenreKey mobile application for Android and iOS, including the package name com.songkeyfinder.app, and related GenreKey analysis services.

By using GenreKey, you agree to the collection and use of information described in this policy.

2. Data We Collect

GenreKey may process the following information:

  • Audio you provide: a live microphone sample when you press and hold the listen control, or an audio file you select for upload.
  • Analysis results: estimated genre, key, BPM, mood, confidence, audio features, related genres, and reference music metadata returned by the service.
  • Local app data: recent scan results stored on your device so you can reopen them inside the app.
  • Technical service data: IP address, request time, file size, processing status, error logs, and similar diagnostic information used for security, abuse prevention, debugging, and reliability.
GenreKey does not require you to create an account and does not provide chat, posting, or user-to-user content sharing features.

3. Audio Processing

GenreKey records or receives audio only when you actively use Live Listen or upload a track. The app sends that audio to the GenreKey analysis API to estimate music characteristics such as genre, key, BPM, mood, and feature scores.

The GenreKey API processes audio for analysis and returns the result to the app. GenreKey does not intentionally store uploaded or recorded audio files after analysis is complete. Temporary files or technical logs may exist for a limited time as part of normal service operation, debugging, security, or abuse prevention.

The app may use third-party public music metadata or chart services, including Last.fm, to show trending charts or reference metadata. GenreKey does not send your uploaded or recorded audio to those chart/metadata services.

4. App Permissions

  • Microphone: used only when you choose Live Listen so the app can capture a short audio sample for analysis.
  • Files or media picker: used when you select an audio file to upload for analysis.
  • Internet: used to send analysis requests, receive results, fetch chart metadata, and check app configuration such as update notices.

5. Sharing and Third Parties

GenreKey does not sell your personal data. We may share limited information only when needed to operate the service, comply with law, protect the app or API from abuse, or use infrastructure providers that help host and secure the service.

Public chart or music metadata displayed in the app may be supplied by third-party services. Their own privacy practices apply when their services are contacted directly.

6. Retention

Audio files are processed transiently and are not intentionally kept after analysis. Technical request logs may be retained for a limited period for security, debugging, abuse prevention, and service reliability.

Recent scan results stored on your device remain until you clear app data, uninstall the app, or the app replaces them with newer recent results.

7. Your Choices

  • You can deny microphone permission and use file upload instead.
  • You can avoid uploading any audio file you do not want analyzed.
  • You can remove local app data by clearing the app data or uninstalling the app.
  • You can contact us to request deletion or ask privacy questions.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect the service. No internet-connected service can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but we work to limit processing to what the app needs and to keep operational access controlled.

9. Children

GenreKey is not designed for children under 13. Do not upload audio that you do not have the right to use.

10. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy as GenreKey evolves. The updated date at the top of this page will change when we publish a new version.
